Greyhounds
Why adopt a greyhound?
Thousands of greyhounds are "retired" each year from racetracks around
the country, simply because they are no longer good racers. They range in
age from about 1 to 5 years old. The lucky ones are sent to greyhound
adoption groups to find homes. Many are not so lucky.
Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are sweet, loving, gentle and playful dogs that adapt well to most home environments, children, and other pets. If you are interested in adding one of these great dogs to your family, you can find more information on Greyhound Links.

We adopted our first greyhound, Princess, in October of 1990 from Greyhound Friends in Massachusetts. She trained us very quickly and became a very special part of our family. We enjoyed 7 1/2 wonderful years together. Some of our favorite memories are of our daily trips to the park to play with other canine and human friends, vacationing in Maine, apple picking (boy, those apples are fun to chase!), and of course moving from Massachusetts to Seattle where Princess was "accidentally" released from her crate by a baggage handler on the tarmac of Logan Airport, delaying the plane by about 30 minutes. Whoops!
We have also enjoyed doing foster care for other greyhounds which were looking for their permanent homes. Princess welcomed them into her home and showed them the retirement ropes. Enter Mocha, foster dog #5 that never left.

Mocha is a very sweet, lovable, and quiet dark brindle female. After
fostering her for a week, we claimed her for ourselves. She fit into our
family so well, and she and Princess became buddies very quickly.
After Princess passed away in 1998, we adopted Abby.

Abby is a big, goofy, playful black female that makes us laugh. We enjoy
her very much. Never a dull moment with Abby around!
Halloween is always a fun time for us, since the dogs are very tolerant of costumes and enjoy going to the front door to greet the little ghosts and goblins.
